An Actor's Dream

 

Every actor has a dream,

More than others it may seem.

But there's one dream that manifests in their souls unlike the rest.

A constant struggle a battlefield--

This sometimes describes the way they feel.

Believing, commitment, risk taking and commotion

Digging to sacrifice a hidden emotion

But there’s one dream that manifests in their souls unlike the rest

Why would an actor devote his life

To a career of frustration, tension and strife

Appointments, interviews, deadlines for shows,

Realizing a fact: It is who you know.

While waiting for their real big break

They wait tables and spend the money they make

On training, books and applications

Gas in their cars to audition locations

To return home and wait for the news

And realize patience is no virtue

I ask again why an actor would devote

Their time and energy when the chances are remote

But there's one dream that manifests in their souls unlike the rest:

To have a chance to change inside,

To make believe while others hide,

To maybe change another’s life

And make success come out of strife

To have a goal that most don't see

And be able to reach it constantly,

To feel and relate with an open mind

And treasure a career that’s so sublime

Knowing one day you'll reach your peak,

Accomplishing goals that were hard to defeat,

Knowing you don't have to hide

Your talent so graciously given by God,

A talent that only a minute share,

God's given gift with love and tender care
